Funeral donations?

My boss who I have worked for just passed away. Im not sure how much to donate to the charities that they have selected. And I would also like to send a flower arrangement. Is it not appropriate to send a flower arangement when they have charities listed in the obit. It is a boss but we are like family and he was the second generation of the founder and we will be continueing to work for the son who took over. They are the best bosses in the world and have done a lot for us, we are family. Any advice.

I would also suggest getting a collection together for a company-wide donation for flowers so that everyone can feel involved. It sounds like the owners are very appreciated there.

Reply:best bet would be a staff collection for the funeral arrangement which judging by what you said would be no problem along with IF the members of staff wished to also add a few dollars to one of the charities that they pick from the list as a separate donation.





Who ever does the collection tin, make sure that they account for everything, flowers, a card from all staff that donated to be sent to the family...............if anything left over ask if they could pick TWO out of the list for the remainder to be sent to.

What kind of lei is appropriate for a funeral?

My family is originally from Hawaii, but is now settled on the mainland. My aunt just passed away and I wanted to create a lei instead of a regular flower arrangement. I%26#039;ve seen leis at other funerals, but I don%26#039;t know which flowers/types are appropriate. I%26#039;d hate to give something that represents %26#039;long life and happiness%26#039; to someone who is now deceased. Anyone know what would work and what wouldn%26#039;t? Thanks!

Hala is appreciated at a funeral, or as a gift to someone from Puna. La`i, ti leaf, is always appropriate, as is maile.

Temporary leis now commonly called fresh leis, are a mixture of endemic as well as introduced combinations of flowers, leaves, mosses, blossoming grasses, and vines. Materials common for stringing include: suji, ribbon, lei thread even carpet thread.


kipu`u - knotting.Short vine lengths or leaves with a long stem were knotted together, as seen with the maile lei or kukui leaf


hili - plaiting or braiding. Used only when braiding one material, seen in the modern ti leaf leis and maile lei


haku - braiding %26quot;somewhat%26quot;, with a central binding cord and mixture of flower, leaf and/or fern. The term haku is loosely used for the head lei.


wili - winding similar to the haku with no knots till the very end.


humu papa - sewing to a foundation. The traditional head lei, or as in feather leis.


kui - stringing,


kui pololei - stringing through the center of the flower or shell. Remember puka shells?


kui poepoe - stringing through stem or ovary of flower, arranging as in spokes of a wheel. The beautifl double plumeria lei is often strung in this method.


kui lau - stringing flat through stem or ovary of flower, arranging alternating side to side. The intricate cigar flower lei is strung with this method.

The common plant used for hedges, Tiare, makes a wonderful lei. Papaya flowers and pansies, baby%26#039;s breath and boston fern make an awesome head lei.


Take them as hostess gifts, and to give to the departed at funerals. .

My inlaws wont return my mothers vase...?

My parents let my inlaws take a flower arrangement from my husband and my wedding, with the agreement that the vase that the flowers were in would be returned to my mother.


She is a florist and needs it for her next wedding. Its been 3 months now, my husband and I asked them to bring it to a family birthday party, but they didn%26#039;t.





My mother has tried contacting them several times, however they don%26#039;t respond. My husband isn%26#039;t on good terms with his parents but at least they answer his phone calls. I think my husband should just give them a call, and let them know that its important that they let her get back the vase. My mother has offered to go get it, even if they want to leave it on the porch. What do you think we should do?





My husband thinks its awkward to ask them for it. I think that since they are ignoring everyone else, and he is the only one who they answer their phone to, its his responsibility.

When they make an excuse he can tell them he%26#039;s going to see your parents the next day and is saving his parents the trouble and your mother the delay. They may be pissed, but since he already isn%26#039;t on good terms with them, he doesn%26#039;t have much to lose.

The flowers, you are going to have a hard time with Hydrangea in the dead of winter, they are a summer flower and you may have to really pay through the nose to get them. Dont rule out roses, they are a really sturdy flower and can withstand cold temps.





I think the cake topper you have chosen is way to subtle for the cakes you like, I think you will need something more flashy. Anybody here know what cut roses symbolise in dreams...The FREAKIEST coincidence(!!!)...?

This morning I called my mother (VERY rare for me to call her in the morning, before work) and during our conversation, we discovered we had both had eerily similar dreams. In her dream, she was in a flower shop, watching one of her co-workers cutting roses for a flower arrangement. She said there were peices of cut stems/leaves all over the table. In my dream, I was doing some work at a table, and left the room for a minute. When I came back, there were rose cuttings all over my work table, which annoyed me greatly. I haven%26#039;t been able to find any info on the internet as to the meaning of our dreams, specifically. I did find out that withered roses signify the death or the parting or absence of loved ones. I had a scary thought that if withered roses symbolise death, maybe cut roses symbolise murder (or being %26quot;killed%26quot;, as in a car accident). What makes this even more bizarre, is that at around 4am. a music box (that plays the song %26quot;Noel%26quot;) started playing on it%26#039;s own and woke me.
Anybody here know what cut roses symbolise in dreams...The FREAKIEST coincidence(!!!)...?

Here%26#039;s my Mom%26#039;s experience. I had moved cross country from my Mom and we missed each other. For Christmas I sent her a music box that had a little girl who looked like me, and played a song from my childhood %26quot;A song of love is a sad song%26quot;. I was across a continent from her when I went onto labor with my first baby. We decided not to call her until after the birth. At the exact moment of my daughter%26#039;s birth (adjusted by time zones..) the music box suddenly spontaneously started to play.


My Mom was totally startled, but said to my Dad-- The baby is born! Within a few minutes my husband called my mom and gave her the news.

is there any kind of spray available which will give a shine to the stems and leaves of a flowering plant ... its for flower arrangement purpose .

I have also heard of some people using WD-40, however that is not something I would recommend.





If you are talking about artificial plants - you should use a silk plant spray which you typically spray and leave on.
